WoW Forever · Class changes & talent decisions

WoW Forever Rogue Guide

The trees now ask different questions about finishing moves: poison duration, cooldown recovery, or energy reduction from a maintained bleed. Choose the loop you want to sustain before spreading points across familiar names.

Updated 2026-09-16 · BlizzCon preview. Mechanics below come from community-transcribed preview tooltips. “Our take” is editorial analysis, not a tested damage ranking.

Plan your Rogue talents →

Start with these decisions

  • Which finisher pays back my next cycle?
  • What happens when the target dies early?
  • Does my weapon pair match the selected talent?

Decision 1

Assassination: build around poison uptime

What the preview changes

Mutilate receives a benefit against poisoned targets. Venom is a finishing move that supports poisons for a duration determined by combo points.

Our take: what to do differently

Check whether the enemy is poisoned before valuing the conditional bonus. Compare spending points on a longer poison window against a damage finisher when the target is nearly dead.

The tradeoff

A sustained setup can be poor on a short-lived enemy even when it is attractive on a boss. Target lifetime belongs in the recommendation.

Inspect the supporting talent text

Mutilate · rank 1

Instantly attacks with both weapons for 75% weapon damage plus an additional 13 with each weapon. Damage increased by 20% against Poisoned targets. Awards 2 Combo Points.

Venom · rank 1

Finishing move that increases the damage of your Poisons by 30% and your chance to apply Poisons by 10%. Lasts longer per combo point: 1 point: 9 seconds 2 points: 12 seconds 3 points: 15 seconds 4 points: 18 seconds 5 points: 21 seconds

Decision 2

Combat: spend finishers with cooldowns in mind

What the preview changes

Restless Blades makes damaging finishers reduce several cooldowns per combo point. Hack and Slash distinguishes weapon families.

Our take: what to do differently

Watch the remaining cooldown before a damaging finisher. When a reset can enable an extra use in the encounter, its timing matters beyond the finisher's immediate damage.

The tradeoff

Do not assume every finisher triggers the same recovery: the wording specifies damaging moves. Compare weapon choices together with their supported effects.

Inspect the supporting talent text

Restless Blades · rank 1

Your damaging finishing moves reduce the remaining cooldown of your Adrenaline Rush, Blade Flurry, Evasion, Sprint, and Vanish abilities by 2 sec per combo point.

Hack and Slash · rank 5

Gives your melee weapon attacks a benefit depending on the weapon. Axe/Sword: Your successful melee attacks have a 5% chance to trigger an extra attack on the target. Dagger/Fist: Increases your critical strike chance by 5%. Mace: Your attacks ignore 15% of your target's armor.

Decision 3

Subtlety: keep the bleed engine connected

What the preview changes

Thousand Cuts links Rupture ticks to reduced cost on a later Hemorrhage or Backstab. Cutthroat opens a conditional Ambush opportunity.

Our take: what to do differently

Maintain visibility of the discount and its expiration. Target switches and downtime can separate the bleed that generates value from the next ability that spends it.

The tradeoff

A proc-based opportunity is not permission to ignore positioning, weapon requirements or remaining energy. Those constraints determine whether you can use it.

Inspect the supporting talent text

Thousand Cuts · rank 1

When your Rupture ability deals periodic damage, the Energy cost of your next Hemorrhage or Backstab ability within 10 sec is reduced by 3, stacking up to 5 times.

Cutthroat · rank 5

Your Backstab has a 15% chance to cause your next Ambush within 10 sec to not require Stealth.

Quietus · rank 1

Your Sinister Strike, Ghostly Strike, and Hemorrhage abilities cause 2% more damage against targets below 35% health.

Build the role you will actually play

At level 60 you have 51 points. A seventh-row talent requires 30 points in earlier rows before its own point, leaving at most 20 for other choices. Taking every attractive cross-tree effect can therefore lock you out of a capstone.

Begin with your group assignment, identify the talent that enables it, then compare the path to that talent with the alternative points. Check form, weapon, pet and target requirements as carefully as the point budget. A valid allocation can still fail to support the way you intend to play.

What we would test before calling a build “best”

  • Check which finishers trigger Restless Blades and how it handles a cooldown already ready.
  • Test whether stored discounts survive target switches.

We have no repeatable combat-log sample for these interactions. A tooltip explains an intended rule; it cannot settle proc behavior, coefficients, threat, encounter uptime or final balance. Those results would change our recommendations, so no numerical DPS tier or best-in-slot list is implied here.

Rogue talents in WoW Forever: FAQ

What changed in WoW Forever Rogue talents?

The preview includes Mutilate, Venom, Restless Blades, Hack and Slash, Dirty Tricks among its new choices. Check each effect and prerequisite rather than reusing a Classic allocation by tree totals alone.

Read every Rogue talent
Can one Rogue build reach every final talent?

No. Assassination, Combat, Subtlety share the standard 51-point budget. A seventh-row talent needs 30 earlier-row points before its own point, leaving at most 20 for other choices.

Plan your Rogue build
Are these Rogue recommendations tested rankings?

These guides explain consequences of recorded Forever mechanics. They do not claim independent combat-log testing, final best-in-slot gear or a solved damage ranking. Check the source date and undocumented ranks before treating an example as settled advice.
