Legacy Points, Perks & Alts

Updated 2026-09-16

Legacy rewards the journeys you take across multiple characters. You earn points through challenges, then choose perks for each character separately.

Earning and spending are different

Legacy challenges include goals such as leveling a particular class or reaching a profession milestone. Earned Legacy points are shared with alts, while each character chooses how to allocate its own points.

At launch, the spending limit is 16 points per character. Blizzard describes up to 65 points available to earn initially. Earning more than 16 still contributes to the reward track; it does not let a character ignore the spending cap.

The three trees

TreeExample perkBenefit

ResourcefulnessReagent EconomyClass reagent requirements

Think about the character’s purpose before choosing. An alt you play between rested periods has different goals from a character focused on gathering materials.

Rewards beyond power

The Legacy Reward Track includes cosmetic and prestige rewards, including the Spectral Bear Cub. Extra completed challenges continue to matter even once a character has allocated its available points.

Rulesets and Hardcore

Ordinary rulesets share Legacy progress across the account. Hardcore has a one-way relationship: its progress can become available outside Hardcore, but progress earned outside cannot be imported into it.

Compare rulesets before planning an alt across different play environments.

Planning your next character

Choose a class or profession you actually want to explore, then use its journey to contribute to account progression. The system is designed around the leveling experience rather than requiring every player to complete every possible challenge before starting.
