Which Forever changes deserve a closer look?
Our first comparisons focus on decisions that Classic habits can get wrong. These are editorial starting points, not an ordered power ranking.
Choosing a tank: compare Protection Warrior’s shield engine, Protection Paladin’s Forbearance interactions and Feral Bear’s cooldown windows. A new defensive tool matters only when it is available for the dangerous event.
Returning to a hybrid damage role: inspect Enhancement’s stack consumption, Retribution’s Seal sequence and Balance’s casting windows. A more complete toolkit is a reason to test the role, not proof of sustained raid damage.
Choosing a healer: compare Discipline’s shield restrictions, Holy Paladin’s setup target, Restoration Shaman’s first heal target and Restoration Druid’s party coverage. Match your route to the healing assignment.
Planning ranged damage: compare Arcane’s mana decisions, Shadow’s cost of off-role help and the pet conditions in Hunter builds. Check the full fight or pull cycle, not a single burst window.
Agree on the job first: sustained threat, emergency healing, interrupts or damage. A new defensive button does not prove that every dangerous pull is covered. Read the cooldown and resource tradeoffs below.
S–C describe your preferences. Changing the scenario changes the questions to ask, not a hidden score. Your selections remain until you change them.

Melee DPS
Arms Warrior
Decision: connect the bleed, proc and weapon.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Bloodthrill links Rend to an Overpower opportunity, Weaponmaster gives different benefits to different weapon families, and Improved Slam changes its interaction with swing timing.
How it affects your choice
Track the bleed and the short proc window as separate information. Compare a weapon upgrade together with its Weaponmaster effect; a weapon name alone cannot decide the winner. Re-evaluate any old habit of avoiding Slam because it interrupts the swing timer against the new tooltip.
Before you commit
An enemy that dies before your bleed contributes much damage changes the value of setup. Build around the content you will actually run, not a permanent boss target.
Tank
Protection Warrior
Decision: protect the shield-based engine.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Vanguard enables Charge in Defensive Stance. Several protection benefits explicitly require a shield, and Shield Slam references Block Value.
How it affects your choice
Plan the opener around contact and the first rage spend. If you swap off your shield, inspect which selected benefits stop applying; an allocation can remain legal while its main engine is inactive.
Before you commit
A shield build and a dual-wield threat approach have different dependencies. Compare incoming damage, healer pressure and initial threat before choosing between them.
Melee DPS
Fury Warrior
Decision: capacity is not income.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Boundless Rage increases the size of the resource pool; Raging Blows makes the off-hand relevant to Whirlwind.
How it affects your choice
Watch whether a pull actually caps rage. More storage has limited value when your problem is an empty bar. Examine both weapons when judging the Whirlwind window rather than only the main hand.
Before you commit
Hit support, resource storage and damage are competing point spends. Resolve the problem visible in your current equipment before buying capacity you never use.
Melee DPS
Retribution Paladin
Decision: plan the next swing.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Twist of Light describes an Echo when one listed Seal is replaced by a different Seal; the next melee attack applies the replaced effect. Sacred Arbiter adds Judgement maintenance to Holy Strike.
How it affects your choice
Think in a sequence: current Seal, replacement, then the swing that consumes the Echo. Refreshing effects with Holy Strike changes what your next Judgement needs to accomplish. Observe the actual timing before building a macro around an assumed Classic twist window.
Before you commit
Extra actions are not automatically extra net damage. Include their mana cost and the opportunity to press another ability when comparing a sequence.
Tank
Protection Paladin
Decision: map defensive lockouts.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Templar's Bulwark grants an absorb and applies Forbearance; it cannot be used while Forbearance is active. Iron Creed connects Holy Strike to damage reduction while Righteous Fury is active.
How it affects your choice
Decide which defensive you reserve for the dangerous event before using another Forbearance interaction. Track the short mitigation maintenance alongside threat rather than treating Holy Strike as optional filler.
Before you commit
A large absorb is not permanent mitigation. Compare how often the encounter needs a defensive response with cooldown availability and your ordinary incoming damage.
Healer
Holy Paladin
Decision: choose the recipient before the trigger.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Light's Vigil modifies the next Holy Shock on its target, with different friendly and hostile outcomes. Infusion of Light links critical heals to the next Holy Light cast.
How it affects your choice
Pick the party you intend to heal before applying Vigil. Keep track of the setup target and the follow-up cast so a useful proc is not spent on a target that no longer needs it.
Before you commit
The offensive and healing branches compete for attention and timing. A damage setup during predictable downtime is different from committing the same action during a tank emergency.
Ranged DPS
Beast Mastery Hunter
Decision: protect pet uptime.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Focused Fire depends on an active pet. Summon Hawk shares a cooldown with Arcane Shot and has a limit on concurrent hawks.
How it affects your choice
Check the target's expected lifetime before committing a temporary summon. A shared cooldown means the Hawk choice has an immediate alternative, so comparing its full-duration damage to zero is misleading.
Before you commit
Travel time, pet survival and target switches can reduce real output even when the tooltip looks strong. Plan pet control alongside your own firing position.
Ranged DPS
Marksmanship Hunter
Decision: price the petless condition.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Lone Wolf requires no active pet. Careful Aim converts Intellect into attack power; Rapid Recuperation ties mana support to specified events.
How it affects your choice
Decide whether losing pet utility is acceptable for your solo or group assignment before taking a petless damage route. Track the mana-support trigger so you know why regeneration is present or absent.
Before you commit
A damage multiplier does not measure the lost tanking, control or convenience of a pet. Evaluate the entire pull, including recovery between enemies.
Melee DPS
Survival Hunter
Decision: read the melee package as a system.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Expose Prey links attacks on a marked target to Mongoose Bite opportunities. Lacerating Strikes then adds a bleed interaction.
How it affects your choice
Keep the marked target and proc visibility aligned. A target swap can change both setup and the time available for the bleed; plan movement into melee around the group's damage and control.
Before you commit
A point that rewards a long-lived target may be less useful while questing through short fights. Avoid presenting a raid-oriented sequence as a universal leveling rotation.
Melee DPS
Assassination Rogue
Decision: build around poison uptime.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Mutilate receives a benefit against poisoned targets. Venom is a finishing move that supports poisons for a duration determined by combo points.
How it affects your choice
Check whether the enemy is poisoned before valuing the conditional bonus. Compare spending points on a longer poison window against a damage finisher when the target is nearly dead.
Before you commit
A sustained setup can be poor on a short-lived enemy even when it is attractive on a boss. Target lifetime belongs in the recommendation.
Melee DPS
Combat Rogue
Decision: spend finishers with cooldowns in mind.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Restless Blades makes damaging finishers reduce several cooldowns per combo point. Hack and Slash distinguishes weapon families.
How it affects your choice
Watch the remaining cooldown before a damaging finisher. When a reset can enable an extra use in the encounter, its timing matters beyond the finisher's immediate damage.
Before you commit
Do not assume every finisher triggers the same recovery: the wording specifies damaging moves. Compare weapon choices together with their supported effects.
Melee DPS
Subtlety Rogue
Decision: keep the bleed engine connected.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Thousand Cuts links Rupture ticks to reduced cost on a later Hemorrhage or Backstab. Cutthroat opens a conditional Ambush opportunity.
How it affects your choice
Maintain visibility of the discount and its expiration. Target switches and downtime can separate the bleed that generates value from the next ability that spends it.
Before you commit
A proc-based opportunity is not permission to ignore positioning, weapon requirements or remaining energy. Those constraints determine whether you can use it.
Healer
Discipline Priest
Decision: distinguish shield cooldown from Weakened Soul.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Soul Warding changes Power Word: Shield's cooldown and cost. Renewed Hope changes specified heals on targets with Weakened Soul and reduces that effect's remaining duration.
How it affects your choice
Track the target restriction separately from your button cooldown. Follow-up healing can be part of preparing the next shield, so examine the target's state before assuming a ready button is usable.
Before you commit
The value depends on assignment: repeated protection of one target and spreading shields across several players present different constraints.
Healer
Holy Priest
Decision: useful variety, not random spell switching.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Litany of Light rewards a heal when the previous heal was a different spell. Binding Heal addresses both caster and ally; Prayer of Mending has its own jump conditions.
How it affects your choice
Choose the spell that solves the current health pattern, then consider whether the regeneration interaction supports that choice. Binding Heal has a clear reason when both you and your target are hurt.
Before you commit
A mana return cannot rescue a heal that was unnecessary. Evaluate effective healing and wasted casts before celebrating a trigger count.
Ranged DPS
Shadow Priest
Decision: plan the cost of off-role help.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Shadowform changes mana cost and damage behavior while preventing healing spells. Devouring Contagion depends on a plagued target dying near another enemy.
How it affects your choice
Use enemy spacing and kill order when evaluating spread value. A controlled enemy nearby can make an automatic spread tactically awkward. Agree when you leave damage form to help heal.
Before you commit
A stationary single-target comparison misses movement, dead targets and emergency support. Do not treat all three as negligible downtime.
Ranged DPS
Elemental Shaman
Decision: read Lava Burst literally.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
The preview Lava Burst tooltip describes extra damage when your Flame Shock is present. Lightning Overload names Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning.
How it affects your choice
Maintain the appropriate debuff for Lava Burst's listed benefit. Do not plan around an automatic critical strike or an Overload interaction merely because another expansion worked that way.
Before you commit
Long-lived targets can repay setup differently from quest enemies. Compare the cost of applying Flame Shock with the number of follow-up casts you can actually land.
Melee DPS
Enhancement Shaman
Decision: know what spends the stacks.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Maelstrom Weapon names Lightning Bolt as the spell receiving cast-time and mana-cost reduction. Intellect also enters the tree through Mental Dexterity.
How it affects your choice
Make the stack count visible and decide when movement or target death makes spending appropriate. An instant-heal assumption imported from another version needs verification before it becomes your survival plan.
Before you commit
A stat can affect more than one part of the kit without becoming universally best. The melee-versus-spell contribution depends on equipment and encounter uptime.
Healer
Restoration Shaman
Decision: choose the first target deliberately.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Riptide improves Chain Heal casts directly on its target. Water Shield has charges and trigger conditions rather than unlimited passive return.
How it affects your choice
Use Riptide on a target you expect to lead a useful Chain Heal. Casting Chain Heal elsewhere does not satisfy the same direct-target condition. Monitor Water Shield charge consumption while you heal.
Before you commit
A strong first heal is not proof of useful later jumps. Position and the health of nearby players determine how much of the chain matters.
Ranged DPS
Arcane Mage
Decision: decide when the stack stops paying.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Arcane Blast raises its own mana cost while increasing other spell damage, with a short duration and consumption by another damage spell. Missile Barrage changes a later Arcane Missiles channel.
How it affects your choice
Compare continuing to stack with using a different spell before movement or expiration. Watch the actual remaining mana and proc state; an uninterrupted stationary sequence is only one encounter situation.
Before you commit
The highest next hit is not necessarily the best sustained plan. Recovery time and the number of casts left in the fight belong in the comparison.
Ranged DPS
Fire Mage
Decision: familiar name, different Hot Streak.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Hot Streak stacks a percentage reduction to Pyroblast's cast time after specified non-periodic crits. The preview wording does not simply grant an instant Pyroblast after two crits.
How it affects your choice
Display the current stack count rather than a generic proc icon. Re-evaluate the time you can stand still before committing Pyroblast, especially when a movement mechanic is approaching.
Before you commit
A partially shortened cast can still be useful. Conversely, waiting for maximum stacks can lose value when the target will die or the effect will expire.
Ranged DPS
Frost Mage
Decision: spend limited frozen opportunities.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Fingers of Frost makes a limited number of later casts treat the target as frozen. Ice Lance has a frozen-target damage condition.
How it affects your choice
Count remaining charges and know what consumes one. During movement, an instant spell may preserve output that a stationary cast cannot deliver, but evaluate that against the charge's other uses.
Before you commit
A PvP control setup and a boss damage opportunity use the same words differently. Separate actual crowd control from a talent that treats the target as frozen for your spell.
Ranged DPS
Affliction Warlock
Decision: decide when setup becomes payoff.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Improved Drains scales with other Affliction effects up to a limit and changes below a health threshold. Soul Siphon changes drain timing and the healing tradeoff.
How it affects your choice
Count the effects that will remain during the channel, not just those currently visible. On a dying target, adding another setup cast may leave too little time to benefit from the improved drain.
Before you commit
Faster damage does not imply equal self-healing safety. Read the healing reduction before relying on a drain to survive incoming damage.
Ranged DPS
Demonology Warlock
Decision: plan the summon sequence.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Demonic Pact preserves a sacrifice when a different demon is summoned, but resummoning the sacrificed demon cancels it. Other benefits depend on an active pet.
How it affects your choice
Write down the demon you sacrifice and the demon you intend to fight with. A recovery summon after a pet death can accidentally undo the package if you choose the wrong demon.
Before you commit
The strongest passive combination is only useful if the pet can survive and perform its job. Include pet control and recovery time in the plan.
Ranged DPS
Destruction Warlock
Decision: mark the target you are not attacking.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Bane of Havoc transfers part of damage dealt to other targets and is restricted to one target. Incinerate has an Immolate condition; Shadow and Flame connects Fire and Shadow actions.
How it affects your choice
Choose the Havoc target according to the encounter's priority and control plan, then attack the other intended target. Read same-target Bane restrictions before adding another effect.
Before you commit
Transferred damage can be undesirable on a controlled target. More total damage is not always better progress on the enemy your group needs dead first.
Melee DPS
Cat Druid
Decision: budget energy and combo points separately.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
The new Furor wording concerns energy retained through shifting. King of the Jungle adds energy to Tiger's Fury, while Berserk changes generator critical chance. These are three different resource interactions; treating them as one familiar expansion package gives you the wrong plan.
How it affects your choice
Before Tiger's Fury, leave enough energy headroom for its gain. During Berserk, check your current combo points before another generator: an extra critical strike is wasted if it pushes points past the cap. Plan an emergency heal or form swap around the energy you can retain, rather than assuming every Cat entry creates Classic's old flat energy payment.
Before you commit
For a dedicated Cat, compare damage and resource talents against the Bear survival points you would spend for occasional tanking. The useful hybrid build is the one that covers an agreed assignment, not every talent containing the word Bear.
Tank
Bear Druid
Decision: distinguish a threat window from permanent AoE.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
The Mangle preview requires Bear or Dire Bear Form. Berserk temporarily removes its cooldown and lets it hit up to three targets. Natural Reaction links dodges to rage; Thick Hide links armor to level and defense skill.
How it affects your choice
Arrange a dangerous pull so the three enemies you most need to control are in reach during Berserk. A fourth loose enemy is still a targeting and control problem. Outside the cooldown, budget rage for your next useful ability instead of expecting the same cleave pattern to continue.
Before you commit
Armor gain and rage generation solve different problems. Compare survival gear against the damage profile you are actually tanking; neither an armor tooltip nor a legal talent build proves immunity to critical hits.
Ranged DPS
Balance Druid
Decision: plan a casting window before chasing another proc.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Eclipse gives Wrath a setup role for later Starfire casts, with a limited charge store and duration. Balance of Nature rewards switching damage schools, while Nature's Grace changes a short casting window.
How it affects your choice
Ask how many Starfires you can finish before the next movement mechanic. Building more charges immediately before moving can be less useful than spending those you already have. School switching is an interaction to evaluate alongside mana, cast time and target lifetime; it is not proof that strict one-for-one alternation is optimal.
Before you commit
Moonkin Form prevents healing while active. If your group expects emergency healing, include the form change and lost casting time in the assignment. Moonkin and Leader of the Pack crit coverage are exclusive in the preview: coordinate parties before counting the same buff twice.
Healer
Restoration Druid
Decision: target the party, not only the injured nameplate.
Forever changes & tradeoffs
What changed
Wild Growth describes healing the target and their party, with a range condition. Gift of the Earthmother shortens the GCD of specific spells. Swiftmend interacts with an existing HoT.
How it affects your choice
Choose Wild Growth's target by who else in that party needs healing and where they are standing. A faster GCD creates room for another action, but spending that room on unnecessary HoTs also spends mana. Keep a useful HoT available on a likely emergency target before relying on Swiftmend.
Before you commit
A dungeon healer and a raid assignment can value the same talent differently. Compare direct-heal support, HoT support and regeneration against the job; a blanket Spirit-versus-crit ranking needs spell coefficients and fight data we do not yet have.
How to read a WoW Forever tier list
A useful performance ranking should name its ruleset, role, encounter, equipment, buffs and build. A personal preference list should say whose preferences it represents. A popularity vote answers a third question: what people want to play.
This page uses the existing class analyses and recorded talent text to show mechanics and tradeoffs. Each route links to its evidence and the calculator. Scenario choices provide decision prompts; they do not generate a weighted power score. All routes begin unranked so your list does not inherit an unsupported prediction.
Check the build before investing in a main
Open the calculator at the level you expect to play. Check the point cost of your defining mechanic, then compare what you give up in the other trees. Discuss the role with your group and keep an alternative if the mechanic changes during testing.
This site does not have comparable level-60 logs or a validated simulator that establishes an overall winner. Choose a role first, then compare the Forever mechanics that affect that job. The board records your preferences; S does not mean proven highest damage.
Are Fury Warrior and the old Classic tier lists still reliable?
An old list is a starting hypothesis. Changed resource rules, talent costs, encounters and equipment can change its conclusion. Check the Forever tree and compare builds under the same conditions before carrying a Classic ranking forward.
Do better hybrid talents guarantee a raid slot?
No. New tools give you specific mechanics to investigate. Sustained resources, encounter needs, gear and your group’s assignments still determine whether a build fits. We do not turn a preview tooltip into a group-invite probability.
Why do tank, healer, leveling and PvP lists disagree?
They ask different questions. Threat recovery, mana endurance, solo downtime and survival against players are not interchangeable. Use the focus selector to check the relevant tradeoffs, and state the scenario when sharing your list.
Does choosing a race change my tier automatically?
No. Race and faction availability are separate checks. Review the racial reference for your planned combination before committing; this board does not estimate a numerical race bonus or use race popularity as a strength rating.
Can I save and share my WoW Forever tier list?
Assign S, A, B or C to the routes you want to compare. Choices save in this browser when storage is available. Copy my tier list creates a link containing your choices and scenario, without an account. Anyone with that link can see those preferences.
